Introducing 'The Pegasus', our newest Talisman.

With jewellery that references classical art being one of Vogue’s biggest trend predictions for 2024, the timing couldn’t be better for the launch of Dower & Hall’s latest collection of Talismans. Classical, dynamic, and decidedly contemporary, the new Pegasus Talisman collection immortalises the brand’s daring spirit in two distinctive yet kindred designs.

The collection draws inspiration from the Classical image of Pegasus – the mythical winged stallion sired by Poseidon. While there are many myths and stories of Pegasus, perhaps the most well-known are his adventures with Bellerophon at the court of Iobates. The tale is one of artfulness and imagination, in which the hero Bellerophon manages to tame Pegasus with the help of the goddess Athena, with the two going on to defeat the peculiar monster Chimera in battle. In the end, Pegasus throws off the arrogant hero in favour of Mount Olympus, where his contributions are recognised by Zeus, who immortalises him in the stars as the constellation that shares his name.

<p>The principles of free-thought and highflying imagination that underpin the tale of Pegasus are associated with his image to this day, and are captured in our Talisman in the form of the dynamic silhouette of Pegasus taking flight, encouraging the wearer to liberate themselves of conventional ways of thinking, and set the mind free to explore.

Inspired by an Ancient Greek coin that our head designer, Dan Dower, came across on holiday, the collection consists of two interpretations of the Pegasus narrative. The first, our masculine take, speaks to the spirit of dynamism and bold thinking that led Pegasus to victory in battle. The oxidised silver pendant has a timeless, aged look suggesting endurance and durability, whereas the gold vermeil variation embodies prosperity and success. Both designs are finished on a sturdy belcher chain.
On the other hand, the finish of our feminine take is polished and clean-cut, symbolising clarity of mind and freedom of movement. This talisman encourages the wearer to liberate themselves of convention, and is a promise of escape for those who dare to aim for the stars. In subtle contrast to our masculine design, it is available in either polished silver or gold vermeil, and is suspended from an adjustable chain with a lobster catch.

Together, the Pegasus Talismans channel the beauty of classical art forms through imaginative and modern designs, embodying a cultural permanence that speaks to Dower & Hall’s philosophies of sustainability and unbound creativity.
